The Briefcase Standard So I guess you can say that briefcases are my role models. I know what you are thinking; “But Javi, there are so many other accessories that deserve just as much attention as briefcases!” I totally agree, but briefcases have some special characteristics that set them apart from other products, characteristics that I would also like to have one day. The first reason is pretty obvious, and it is that a briefcase is one of the most useful accessories one could ever own. It is filled with phone pockets, pen pockets, paper pockets, pockets within pockets and many other compartments, which show organization and versatility. The second reason is that briefcases are known for their high quality and usually connote elegance, success and style with practicality.
My “briefcase standard,” as I like to call it, has given me my two golden rules. “Be as useful as you can in as many ways as you can” and “Always look good.” I divide my time in between my education, Boy Scouts, foreign language practice, instrument learning and documentary watching; all in an effort to build the metaphorical briefcase that I would like to be. Now, naturally, at this point in my life, education is the biggest time consumer and therefore my biggest priority. I strive to be the best student I can be because I know the more time and effort I put into my education, the more skills, knowledge and wisdom I get in return. Education is my bedrock and it is also what will shape me as a friend, student, employee, family member and world citizen in the future. It is my biggest and most precious asset; therefore it is the “main compartment” that holds all of the essentials in my “briefcase”. Boy Scouts is very near and dear to my heart, and not just because of the adventures I have conquered with my fellow scouts, but also because I know the worth of service in the community, and it helps me act on that personal value as well as teach others of its importance. I think that my sense of service earns its title as the first and biggest “pocket” in my “briefcase.” My love for foreign languages, musical instruments and documentaries all add to the aesthetic appeal and utility of the briefcase. Knowing three languages adds three very useful pouches that I think will be used quite often in the future. Musical ability and knowledge from documentaries are some convenient extra pockets. These pockets are what make me a high quality and unique briefcase. I do what I do to develop these aspects of my life and add more pockets to become a briefcase useful enough to be picked up by life and taken around the world. The versatility of my “briefcase” will allow me to reach into one of my “pockets” or “compartments” at any time to utilize what I need to solve any problem I am confronted with. |
